A Problem Halved...
Thought i'd let you all know since having the complete maya scene file, i've braved the unknown and gone through the outliner and cleaned it up quite a bit. The file has now gone from roughly 30 mb to 15 mb so quite a difference!! Will help loads when animating and applying textures...

was that through deleting historys? thanks for doing that, we should have thought to do it really. Something we should bare in mind for the future.
I deleted the history as well as clearing loads upon loads of stuff (unused geometry, textures, nodes etc). It'll help everyone in the end. I felt it was needed to be honest, especially when transferring files etc...
